What I did last weekend

Last weekend was a whirlwind. Not sure where the time went but I am glad it is over with! I was amazed and happy with how smoothly moving went. We started about 10:00 a.m. on Sunday and was unloading the last piece of furniture about 4:00 p.m.! Thanks to my wonderful parents, Nate (fellow OD & muscle man) & Barry (attorney I worked for who let us use his trailer) we got it done with ease. Apparently I am losing my touch b/c I am really lacking in the photos... I am going to try to do better. So here are a few pictures of my house during it all.

The kitchen. I think I have pretty much everything unpacked. I used my oven for the first time last night and LOVE it! It is a convection oven, super fast!
The front door that had to be taken off so the refrigerator could fit through.

Boxes everywhere!
The finished guest room is open for visitors!
My grill that my bf Joe helped me put together. Looks great on my deck!
And we picked up my new TV last night... Still waiting on cable to get hooked up, which is a slight mess but it will all work out.
It is so pretty! And BIG!!

Family Wedding

Amidst moving last weekend, I had a cousin get married in Topeka. It was nice to see so much of my family but my mind was elsewhere thinking about moving. Here are a few pictures that were snapped at the reception. I forgot to take pictures at the actual wedding. Oops.

Here is my 2nd cousin Sydney (Stephanie's youngest daughter), thanks to her I got these pictures b/c I let her use my camera.
The happy couple, Ryan & Natasha

THE YUMMY CAKE!!
Another Sydnee & her momma Heather, she is the twin of the groom and they celebrated their 30th birthdays on the same day.

THE HOUSE!

Boy, oh boy what a week it has been! I am certain I have never spent this much money in a week... BECAUSE I BOUGHT MY HOUSE!! It was pretty much a done deal on April 15th... All of the paperwork was signed and the keys were in my hot little hand :) That weekend I had a great team of helpers (my mom, sister & friend Erin) to help in getting my house ready for moving in, which is happening this weekend! I can't wait to get in and start decorating! No only have I been trying to pack & move a few things from my townhome to my new house, I have been buying stuff like crazy for my new digs!

Here is Erin putting together my new patio table. Such an awesome friend!
And the finished product on the big deck :)

Next day... Erin putting together entry tables... The box said "easy assembly", I beg to differ!
My little sister, Ashley, getting ready to paint my room!
Coffee break!
Erin showing off her work!
Getting into those tight spaces in the kitchen :) That girl is limber!
My mom doing an awesome job painting behind the toilet, that was a tight space!
Erin's nails match the blue painters tape
Roll it Ashley!
Hanging the rods for my bedroom curtains, one less thing for my dad to do :)
I love my drill! It is a Bosch :)
My bedroom curtains
Love the print!

My night last night...

Last night about 12:45 the fire alarm in my bedroom, of course, malfunctioned. It started to chirp every minute. I stumbled downstairs to get a chair to stand on to reset it. Seemed to work but for only about 10 minutes. I did it again and gave the reset button a good hard push... But again only worked for 10 minutes. So many thoughts went through my head. One of them was I wonder if I could go to my neighbors and sleep in her spare bed... But what did I end up doing... Calling my mom :) She sounded super awake for that hour and had some awesome advice, call the fire department. So I did, not 911 but the normal dispatch number, easy to find thanks to my iPhone :) The girl who answered was great and said she would sent someone right out to take a look at it.

About 15 minutes later 4 firemen were at my door... Must have been a slow night b/c I am sure that it doesn't take 4 of them to do that. They replaced the battery & gave me instructions on how to disarm it if it happened again. I was so relieved and exhausted so I hopped back into bed and was nearly sleeping when about 20 minutes later... BEEEEEP! You have got to be kidding ME! I got out of bed again (btw, my legs are all the while sore from 1/4-1/2 mile of lunges from the day before) I got up on my chair and ripped that thing from the power source and took out the back up battery that they had replaced, laid it on my dresser and gave it an evil eye, and got back into bed and about 10 minutes later... BEEEP! Seriously... Someone up there hates me. I called the nice girl back at the fire station again and she told me to just put it in my garage and go to bed (there was another alarm just outside my bedroom door so she felt pretty solid about this advice). We were both laughing hysterically. I think I was delirious. I got back into be and it probably took a good hour and a half to fall sleep. Awesome. But silver lining... I had 4 firemen in my room last night :)

Give it a try...

I made a great dinner, if I do say so myself, Tuesday night :) I even shared it with my friends Nate & Abigail. The main event on the menu tonight was Turkey meatloaf, a recipe I discovered thanks to my friend Tangee. I also made fresh green beans and mashed "potatoes"... They were actually mashed cauliflower. I absolutely could not believe how it turned out! They had a spice flavor to it, maybe I added too much pepper, but I could have eaten the whole bowl! I think Nate & Abigail were surprised as well. I highly recommend trying this recipe out!
_____________________________
Cauliflower mashed "potatoes"

1 head cauliflower
1/8 skim milk
1-2 Tablespoons butter
Salt & WHITE pepper

Chop up and cook cauliflower until fork tender, I put in microwave safe dish with a little bit of water at the bottom and cooked in microwave for about 6-8 minutes. Place cauliflower, skim milk, butter, salt and pepper in food processor. Whip until smooth. Pour cauliflower into small baking dish and serve!

2 weeks.... grrr

For those who have been following, I am trying to buy a house. No wonder they have to entice people with an $8000 first time home buyers tax credit, b/c the stuff I have had to do is ridiculous and there has been more than 1 time that I have thought about backing out. The house I am purchasing is in a flood zone, therefore I have to get flood insurance. I have been trying for weeks to understand home insurance and flood insurance, and just when I think I have it figured out and know who I am going with... They tell me FEMA is closed for 2 WEEKS!! Seriously? So they can not quote any flood policies or write any new ones in that time.. I am nearly ready to throw in the towel. Say a prayer I don't lose it...

Update: It is not FEMA that is closed, our Senators are on Easter Break that is 2 weeks long... Apparently they did not get to all of the budgeting before break b/c they were wrapped up in the awful health care bill... good job guys.
